Assault at downtown Dallas library puts guard in hospital, man in jail …
A Dallas man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he attacked a security officer who was trying to remove him from the downtown Dallas library. Derrion Cournez Miles, 28, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, taking a weapon from an officer and threatening a security officer. The guard, Leo Kelly, was working security at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library on Young Street about 4 p.m. when he was attacked, according to a police report.
Kelly, 58, told police he was attempting to escort Miles off the property when he struck the security guard several times in the face. Police say Miles then removed Kelly’s weapon and pointed at him while making threats. He also was threatening to kill other guards, records show. Another security officer was able to apprehend Miles, placing him in handcuffs.
Kelly was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. His condition was not released.
Miles was booked into the Dallas County Jail, with bail set at more than $100,000.
