Security officer shoots attacker in South Carolina; 7 injured

Police initially received calls about a large crowd. According to a Myrtle Beach Police Department news release, a fight began between individuals prior to the officers arriving. One of the individuals pulled out a gun and shot the person he was fighting, police said. An armed security officer witnessed the shooting and shot the shooter, according to police.
The shooter fired multiple rounds before carjacking a vehicle and fleeing, police said. Police arrived at the scene around 12:15 a.m. Authorities found the vehicle and apprehended a suspect later Sunday morning.
Seven people were take to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injures, officials said. A patrol car was stuck by rounds.
The security officer suffered a graze wound to the leg, according to police. He was treated for the injury at the scene but not taken to the hospital.
Officers are continuing to investigate.
