Tucson Police opened 10th Street between Mountain View and Arcadia Avenues, located behind the Viscount Suite Hotel, 4855 E. Broadway Blvd., just before 11 a.m. on Thursday. The contents of the suspicious package, which was a duffel bag, were determined to be common household chemicals, according to Tucson Police Dept. spokesman Sgt. Pete Dugan. Police are still investigating how the bag ended up on the hotel property.

UPDATE: The bomb squad disrupted the suspicious package with a water canon and determined it was non-explosive, according to Tucson police. However, the bomb squad found unknown liquid chemicals inside the package and called in the HAZMAT team to further investigate and safely dispose the package. The area along East 10th Street behind the Viscount Suites Hotel, near Broadway Blvd., and Swan Road,is expected to remain closed for another hour.

UPDATE: Tucson police are investigating a suspicious package found in the rear parking lot of the Viscount Suites Hotel Thursday morning. According to police, a hotel security guard spotted the suspicious package behind the Viscount Suites, 4855 East Broadway Blvd., just after 6 a.m.and then immediately called police. Responding officers checked out the package and determined the contents inside the package appeared to be suspicious. Police then called the bomb squad to further investigate the contents inside the package.

TUCSON (KVOA) — A police situation has forced the closure of East 10th Street near Broadway Blvd. and Swan Road early Thursday morning. In an email alerting the media, TPD did not provide any other details involving the police situation. According to police, East 10th Street from Mountain View to Arcadia will remain closed for an unknown amount of time. Drivers are being asked to take alternate routes.
